Heir Apparent by Vivian Vande Velde

Recently I read a book titled Heir Apparent, by Vivian Vande Velde. This book takes you on a futuristic, yet medieval journey to a world where busses talk, video games totally immerse you in the story line, and protests about banning violent video games get violent in themselves. Our protagonist, Giannine, goes to play a simple, total immersion video game at the local arcade, right? No such chance. The tale twists through lots of settings, keeping you on your toes, slightly confused by the eccentric characters, and gripping the book wanting to read more.

This book is very good for losing yourself inside, causing it’s fatal flaw to be seem worse. This book has no sequel, and although it does resolve itself at the end, you still want to read more. You get to put yourself in the shoes of a well rounded protagonist and you want to keep reading about her adventures. This book has an intriguing plot, lots of suspense, lots of well rounded characters, and even some humor. I recommend this book to thrill readers, fantasy-lovers, and people just looking for a good story. The author has other books out, but none are of the same series. I would say that readers sixth grade and above would understand and appreciate the vocabulary and plot the best.
